2019 Eastern Region Chip Seal
Highway: SR 20, 26 Region: Eastern County: Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Adams, and Whitman
Description: Crack seal, prelevel areas, pavement repair areas, bridge deck repair, rumble strips, and guardrail.

  • Work Schedule: 5/29 update: Construction activities continue to be suspended per Governor Inslee’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy proclamation. The contractor will finish the fog seal in 2020.

2020 Eastern Region Strategic Pavement Preservation 
Highway: US 395, SR 902, SR 25, SR 231, SR 211 Region: Eastern County: Adams, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens
Description: Strategic maintenance on various State Routes within Eastern Region, where the pavement is in poor condition, to preserve the roadways. Activities will include crack sealing and pavement repair.

  • Work Schedule: Award for the project is currently pending.

Adams

US 395/Franklin Co Line to Lee Rd SB Lanes - Paving
Highway:
US 395 Region: Eastern County: Adams  Location: MP 61.24 to MP 72.36 (SR 26 MP 60.80 to MP 61.58)
Description: Rehabilitates 11.1 miles of the existing asphalt pavement on US 395 by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes and shoulders.  Rehabilitates 0.8 miles of the existing asphalt pavement on SR 26 by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.  (45 working days)

SR 21 - West Fork Sanpoil Bridge Replace Structure (MP 145.6)
Highway: SR 21 Region: Eastern County: Ferry Location: MP 145.6
Description: Earthwork, removing and relocating the temporary Bailey Bridge, removing the existing bridge and installing a new bridge with wing walls, paving with HMA, stream channel excavation and in water stream work, rock and boulder placing, woody material placing and other items.

I-90 Medical Lake/SR 902 Interchange Improvements (MP 272.81)
Highway: I-90/SR 902 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 272.81
Description: Reconstruction of the intersections at the eastbound and westbound ramp terminals. This will replace the current intersections with roundabouts. Replacement and relocation of the intersection of SR 902 and Geiger Blvd. with a roundabout. Construction of a new bridge structure parallel to the existing overpass at I-90.

  • Work Schedule: Construction will start again on Monday, June 8. Installation of the deck forms will resume, as well as the installation of drainage structures and grading for the new roundabout at the eastbound ramps.

I-90/Salnave Rd to BNSF RR Bridge - Paving

Description: Rehabilitates 4.3 miles of the existing asphalt pavement by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.  (17 working days)

  • Work Schedule:  Paving begins June 1. Expect day and night closures on this section of I-90 both directions through June 12. A reduced legal speed limit from 70mph to 60mph is also posted through the extent of the project.

I-90 - Sprague Ave I/C to Argonne Rd I/C - Paving

I-90 - US 2 Garden Springs to Broadway Ave - Ramp Meters (MP 279.79 to 282.54)
Highway: I-90 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 279.79 to MP 282.54
Description: This project improves various I-90 ramps by furnishing and installing: ITS ramp meters and other ITS components, constructing foundations for ITS standards, pavement markings, permanent signing, bridge-mounted sign brackets, traffic curb, concrete barrier, guardrail and guardrail anchors, irrigations system repairs, seeding and fertilizing.

  • Work Schedule: Crews continue work on Walnut St. with curb prep, installation of underground piping and j-boxes, foundation work, and the service pad. On Monroe St. crews are also working on underground piping and j-boxes. At Hamilton St. crews are directional drilling along with underground piping, j-boxes and foundations for the ramp meters.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Freya Structures (MP 162)
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: NSC MP 162
Description: Construct two mainline freeway bridges over Freya Street.

  • Work Schedule: The contractor issued physical completion.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Columbia to Freya (MP 161.1 to 162.3)
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 161.1 to 162.3
Description: Construct mainline NSC from Freya to Columbia. Contaminated material has been excavated on the north end of the project and samples are waiting for final test results. Minor drainage work. Erosion control work as needed.

  • Work Schedule: 5/29 update: Construction activities continue to be suspended per Governor Inslee’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy proclamation. Future work includes installation of the barrier fence for the pedestrian path as well as finishing and painting the barrier. Contractor still waiting on warmer weather for painting of the snow barrier fence.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/NSC BNSF 2nd Railroad Realignment
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: NSC 
Description: Construction of two railroad structures, BNSF shoofly, retaining wall, clearing, and grubbing, roadway excavation and embankment, HMA paving, installing curb and sidewalk plus utility work.

  • Work Schedule: Crews continue to excavate and export class 4 contaminated material, along with slope trimming and cleanup work. Backfilling of retaining wall 14 continues along with mainline bridge columns, rebar columns for ESL bridge and concrete pours for columns and footings. The three-year closure of Wellesley Avenue began on Nov. 21, 2019.

SR 290 Spokane River E. Trent Bridge - Replace Bridge (MP 0.74 to 0.95)
Highway: SR 290 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 0.74 to MP 0.95
Description: This project will remove and replace the existing bridge along with full-depth roadway reconstruction, utility adjustments, and upgrades, illumination, infiltration pond grading, stormwater upgrades, cement concrete ramps, and traffic island construction.

  • Work Schedule: The East Trent Bridge is scheduled to close on Monday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. The rest of the week crews will work on erosion control, remove the existing bridge sidewalk and asphalt. There will also be ongoing utility work.

US 195 - Install Shoulder Rumble Strip

Description: Reduce run-off-the-road incidents by installing shoulder rumble strips.  (35 working days)

  • Work Schedule:  Construction anticipated to begin in mid-June.

Whitman

PCC Railroad Structure Rehabilitation and Replacement
Highway: Near US 195 Region: Eastern County: Spokane & Whitman 
Description: Rehabilitate bridges at MP 10.5 & 28.4, replace bridge at MP 29.48 and replace bridge at MP 23.89 with a culvert.

  • Work Schedule: Project is suspended until the seeding window.

PV Hooper Track Improvements
Highway: Near SR 26 Region: Eastern County: Adams & Whitman 
Description: Hooper railroad line at MP 25.79 to 41.60. This project replaces ties, rail, and OTM, places ballast, track and restores ditches.

  • Work Schedule: Project under suspension. Contractor is currently waiting on asphalt.

Washington State Rural Rail Rehabilitation
Highway: Near SR 26, US 2, US 195 Region: Eastern County: Lincoln & Whitman
Description: Improves three branches of the PCC Railway System. The Hooper Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, ditching, surfacing turnouts and crossing rehabilitation. The CW Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, rail and OTM replacement, rehabilitation and replacement of turnouts and crossings. The P&L Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, replace crossing and surfacing turnouts, rehabilitation of two timber structures and replacing eight structures.

  • Work Schedule: Along the P&L line crews are working on tie replacements.
